Dream Fragrance Oolong (Aged Tree) \ Meng Xiang (Lao Cong)   梦香 (老枞)

Summary: An exceptionally rare Phoenix Dancong celebrated for its dreamlike, ever-changing floral aroma. Elegant, sweet and remarkably smooth, Dream Fragrance reveals notes of orchid, gardenia, honey and warm almond across many evolving infusions.

Some teas reveal themselves immediately. Others invite you to slow down. Meng Xiang (梦香), or Dream Fragrance, belongs to the latter.

Cultivated in the Phoenix Mountains (凤凰山) of Chaozhou, Guangdong, this rare Phoenix Dancong is treasured for an aroma that shifts gracefully from infusion to infusion. Rather than expressing one dominant fragrance, Dream Fragrance unfolds in delicate layers—orchid, gardenia, warm almond, gentle honey and fleeting fruit notes—creating an experience that feels almost dreamlike. It is this elusive, ever-changing bouquet that gave the cultivar its name.

Produced using the traditional Phoenix Dancong method of harvesting and crafting each tree individually, every batch reflects the character of its own tree, season and mountain terroir. The leaves are carefully oxidised and slowly charcoal-roasted to preserve both elegance and depth.

The liquor is luminous golden amber with a silky body and remarkable clarity. Sweet from the very first sip, it carries almost no harshness, developing into a lingering floral finish that remains long after the cup is empty. Across successive infusions, its fragrance continues to evolve, making every brew subtly different from the last.

For many Dancong enthusiasts, Meng Xiang is one of the most captivating cultivars—not because it is the loudest, but because it refuses to be fully defined.

Why Dream Fragrance is Rare

Dream Fragrance is among the less commonly encountered Phoenix Dancong aroma cultivars. Unlike well-known varieties such as Mi Lan Xiang or Huang Zhi Xiang, it is produced in comparatively small quantities and is seldom seen outside specialist tea producers.

Its rarity comes not only from limited cultivation, but also from the traditional Dancong practice of harvesting and processing each tree separately. Every tree expresses its own aromatic character, harvested at an elevation of 1050m, making high-quality Dream Fragrance particularly prized by collectors and tea connoisseurs seeking nuanced, terroir-driven teas.
